McClellan Air Force Base (closed 2001, now McClellan Business Park) operated as one of the Air Force's five Air Logistics Centers, maintaining and overhauling virtually all Air Force aircraft types over its operational life. Workers at McClellan's massive aircraft depot — mechanics, inspectors, and support workers — were exposed to asbestos-containing aircraft components, gaskets, brake systems, and the base's building infrastructure.
