Where to File in Minnesota

Minnesota's 2013 Child Victims Act created a 3-year lookback window (2013–2016) that generated thousands of clergy abuse claims. The Diocese of Duluth and Diocese of New Ulm both filed for bankruptcy and settled. The Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis reached a $210 million settlement in 2018 without bankruptcy. Minnesota's current standard civil SOL for childhood sexual abuse extends 30 years after the survivor turns 18, capped at age 48. Survivors under age 48 who did not file during the 2013–2016 window may still have viable claims under Minnesota's extended standard SOL. No new lookback window is currently active.
