NHTSA Opens New Investigation Into Engine Failure After Recall Repairs

What happened
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation on August 20, 2026, into loss of motive power caused by engine failure occurring after a prior recall remedy was performed. NHTSA also opened related probes in 2026 into other truck component issues, including lower lateral link detachment, timing belt failure, front steering knuckle fractures, rear toe link separation, heat exchanger damage from road debris, carry handle separation, and rental vehicles operating with open recalls.
