What happened

A peer-reviewed study published July 9, 2026 in Environmental Pollution (PMID 42425288) found PFAS chemicals in renal vascular tissue from brain-dead organ donors and reported a risk ratio of 2.0 for post-transplant delayed graft function. Separately, the EPA recorded an enforcement action against Hasa, Inc. (Case No. 09-2026-3564) carrying a federal penalty of $1,265,246.
