GLP-1 receptor agonists — including semaglutide, sold as Ozempic and Rybelsus for diabetes and as Wegovy for weight loss — are among the most prescribed drugs in America. Starting in 2024, researchers linked them to NAION, a stroke-like injury to the optic nerve that causes sudden, usually permanent vision loss in one eye. In December 2025, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation created a dedicated federal MDL (No. 3163) in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to consolidate these vision-loss claims, keeping them separate from an earlier GLP-1 gastrointestinal-injury litigation.
