Start with the trip record, receipt or messages you hold. A civil case may involve requests for records. Ask which items matter to the claim.

Make an inventory of each file, its date and where you obtained it. Keep the original copy and ask how to provide a separate copy. Do not change a timestamp or fill a gap with a guessed fact.

What if something is missing?

Explain what is missing. Ask whether it can be sought from the service or another provider. The process for gathering proof cannot promise that a missing record exists.

List the record you hoped to find and the places you already checked. Give the lawyer any request and response you have. Ask before deleting an account, replacing a device or changing files that may matter.

How should I handle health records?

Rules for health-record access have exceptions. A minor’s files also need a check of who may act for them. Ask the provider what you can request and how to share it.

Ask about the scope of a proposed records authorization before signing it. Do not assume that an inquiry requires your whole health history. Request an explanation of who would receive the material and why.

Before an upload, ask who operates the form and who can see its contents. Discuss any concern about an unsafe person learning of the inquiry. Do not send graphic images or detailed descriptions merely to test a website form.
