What happened

NHTSA opened a new investigation on August 24, 2026 into reports of intermittent loss of braking in the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. In the weeks before this, NHTSA also opened separate investigations into electronic brake module failures, engine power loss after a recall repair, and heat exchanger damage from road debris, among others.
