What happened
NHTSA opened an investigation on August 24, 2026 into reports of intermittent loss of braking in the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. In the surrounding weeks, NHTSA also opened separate investigations into engine failure following recall repairs, electronic brake module failures, loss of motive power, suspension lower lateral link detachment, timing belt failure, driveshaft-to-differential connection failure, heat exchanger damage from road debris, and Tesla Cybercab FMVSS certification.
