What happened
Between late July and mid-September 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a series of separate investigations into potential vehicle defects, including driveshaft-to-rear-differential connection failure, lower lateral link detachment, timing belt failure, engine failure following a recall remedy, electronic brake module failure, intermittent brake loss in the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid, road debris damage to heat exchangers, and Tesla Cybercab FMVSS certification.
