NHTSA Opens Nine New Vehicle Defect Investigations

What happened
Between July 6 and September 3, 2026, NHTSA opened nine separate investigations into vehicle defects, including carry handle separation, inadvertent air bag deployment, lower lateral link detachment, timing belt failure, heat exchanger damage from road debris, engine failure after recall repairs, electronic brake module failure, intermittent brake loss in a 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid, loss of motive power, and Tesla Cybercab FMVSS certification.
