NHTSA Opens Multiple New Vehicle Defect Investigations Through 2026

What happened
Between March and July 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a series of new investigations into vehicle defects, including fuel smell and loss of motive power, ABS warning light issues, front steering knuckle fractures, automated driving system behavior, rear toe link separation, rental cars with open recalls, carry handle separation, inadvertent airbag deployment, lower lateral link detachment, and timing belt failure.
