NHTSA Opens Multiple New Vehicle Safety Investigations

What happened
Between March and July 2026, NHTSA opened a series of new investigations into vehicle safety concerns, including all-wheel-drive allegations, FSD (Full Self-Driving) collisions in reduced visibility, fuel smell and loss of motive power, ABS malfunction lamp issues, front steering knuckle fractures, automated driving system conflict avoidance, rear toe link separation, rental of vehicles with open recalls, and inadvertent airbag deployment.
