NHTSA Opens New Investigations Into Vehicle Component Failures

What happened
NHTSA opened new investigations in late July 2026 into a timing belt failure and a lower lateral link detachment issue. These add to a series of investigations opened earlier in 2026 covering steering knuckle fractures, rear toe link separation, ABS malfunction indicator lamps, fuel smell and power loss, automated driving system behavior, rental cars with open recalls, carry handle separation, and inadvertent air bag deployment, according to NHTSA.
