NHTSA Opens Series of New Vehicle Safety Investigations

What happened
Between March and July 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a series of new investigations covering issues such as front steering knuckle fractures, anti-lock brake malfunction indicators, rear toe link separation, fuel smell and power loss, inadvertent air bag deployment, and automated/full self-driving (FSD) performance in low-visibility conditions and conflict avoidance, according to NHTSA.
