NHTSA Opens Several New Vehicle Safety Investigations

What happened
Between March and July 2026, NHTSA opened multiple new investigations, including probes into inadvertent air bag deployment (opened July 13, 2026) and carry handle separation (opened July 6, 2026). Earlier in the year, NHTSA also opened investigations into automated driving system collisions in reduced visibility, steering knuckle fractures, rear toe link separation, ABS warning light issues, fuel smell with power loss, all-wheel drive problems, and rental of vehicles with open recalls.
